June 14, 1991 - The day it all started!

Twenty-five years ago on this day I made a decision that would change my life forever...

June 14, 1991 was a Red Letter Day for me. June 14, 1991 was the day that I decided to change my life. I was thirty-five years old. Technically I was an out-of-work Producer/Director/Editor. I was broke. My wife was working full-time as an RN to support our family. We had a three-year old and a six-year old. I was a stay-at-home Dad.

I was ready for a life-change – a game changer as they say. I felt like I was on the verge  something... As May turned into June that year, I felt a growing sense of destiny which was closely followed by a shadow of despair.  As I like to say now (it is easier to say now!) at that time in my life... "I was a “wandering generality.”

On June, 14th, 1991, I made a decision that would pay off for me personally that year and was pretty much an instant success. Eventually that decision would blossom into the Home Video Studio opportunity.

Basically I made a decision to move forward on that day. Before June 14th, 1991, I was allowing myself to be pulled in several directions and going nowhere. After, June 14th, I was totally focused. I had a purpose!

That purpose has grown into the Home Video Studio Family, the studios, the Getaways, the Advanced Trainings, The Great American Home Movie and Digital Video Archive. I truly value the friendships that Denise and I have made over the years with our studio owners and of course the journey we have been on. It is always the journey right... the destination keeps on moving.

It's good to remember the past and then move forward - ever forward.

I truly love what I do and I appreciate all of our studio owners. Please join us for the next twelve months as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary!

May the Force be with YOU!

Who Starts a Home Video Studio?

Who Starts a Home Video Studio?
Tony Miklos came from an IT background
Attracted to the business because of the profit potential and self-determination Tony opened the first retail store-front for Home Video Studio in 2003. in He has become a seasoned business owner in every aspect including marketing and customer service.

Tony is nearly always at the top of the Digital Film Transfer roster as well. "I'd like to think I have a lot of film customers because I live in an older section of the city so there's a lot of 8 and 16 millimeter film waiting to be upgraded. Whatever the case it's a satisfying service to provide." In addition to being a technical whiz and a good businessman Tony has proven his creative acumen by taking home several Hanley trophies through the years, including Best Use of Sound Effects, Best Use of Home Movie Transfer, and Best Use of Motion.

"Besides the technical and creative aspects of this business I have found I like making people happy and helping them realize their dreams through the use of my video services."

Perhaps most rewarding is the fact that, with nearly fifteen years of experience, the Melendez's are regarded in many of their colleague's eyes as the "deans" of Home Video Studio. They will be happy to help you get started.

"I happened to pick up a Videomaker magazine and saw an ad for Home Video Studio. I had nothing to lose so I called, hoping I'd find a video expert to help me. Soon I was talking to Robert Hanley who not only pointed me in the right direction for my technical problem but advised me on some pricing as well."

Peter Galluzzo came from an IT background
Sharon Galluzzo came from the PR and Corporate world
Peter and Sharon Galluzzo started with one purpose: To make money with video. Yes, there are plenty of side benefits that come along with studio ownership - working in a creative field and a family oriented lifestyle to name a few - but making a good income by providing "Video Services for Everyone" is their reason to exist.

Staying true to this vision Peter and Sharon Galluzzo, Home Video Studio Owners in Apex, North Carolina, have really done well over the years. Plus they love what they do!

From their opening in June of 2008 they were "quick out of the gate."  Peter, with a computer and IT background, became interested in video as an AV volunteer at his church. Sharon, his wife, came from a background in public relations and fundraising. Yearning to leave corporate America they decided to risk what they had to get what they wanted. They became Home Video Studio owners. With daily diligence and strategy this powerful team began to build a business that has been on a success track ever since.

Peter and Sharon have won Studio Owners of the Year and were back-to-back winners of the Studio Store of the year award.

"The final decision was really more of a spiritual one. When we determined that this was what we were "supposed" to do, it became easier. We did all we could to get ready and be prepared and then we just had to take the proverbial leap of faith."

How Robert Hanley Got Started in the Video Production Business

On Location in the Mohave Desert - 1986
I got into the video business because I loved (and still do) video, movies, computers, cameras, tech, film and controlling my own destiny. When I started in 1979, I knew little. The next twelve years were an incredible learning experience.  I did every type of film and video project you can imagine. I became an excellent Producer, Director and Editor. I also went broke twice! I had learned my craft inside and out but had not yet learned how to make money with video.

I got a lucky break in the summer of 1991 and began making tons of money! Within a year I was flying high financially. I spent the early 90’s perfecting Home Video Studio and began sharing my knowledge with others in 1999. I am very careful of with whom I share this knowledge and how I share it. Most of you know that we charge $51,900.00 for our system. After that you need about $15,000.00 to $19,000.00 in equipment.

At the "Hanley Awards" 2003
Starting any business on your own is treacherous. Start on your own and there is a 95% chance you will fail within one to two years. You just don’t know enough and there is no way to learn what you need to know quickly enough. The 5% who succeed, do so with heavy causalities. I understand this. Been there, done that.

When you start with a plan and a mentor, you have a shortcut to success. We have a complete plan for you. You can start today if you wish.  It will be the best decision you ever made.

Within a year I was flying high financially!

I easily made over $40,000.00 in January and February – albeit the slowest months of the year in my Home Video Studio. That’s over twenty grand a month – most of it pure profit. I did it with one hand tied behind my back. It was easy. You should expect me to be great at what I do and I am. I can teach you to run a great studio from your home and make a great living. HVS is a shortcut to success but it doesn’t work if you don’t start. You’ve got to start.

Studio Owner Andy Conte Started in 2001!

Are You At A Crossroads? Start a Video Production Company - Home Video Studio!

Most of us, at least once in our life, will face the prospect of having to reinvent ourselves. Perhaps we lose a job, lose a loved one, get a divorce, fail at business, fall flat on our face, or just become burned out. We all find a way to get through these times and then when we do, we start to recover and then we say what now? What’s next?

You are at a crossroads…

Sometimes we find ourselves at a crossroads with little or no traumatic preamble. Life kind of brings us to a point where we just realize that a new direction is needed. This one is usually a slow, gradual build up. One day we just kind of wake up and realize that we need to do something different. Our lives need a new challenge.

“When God Closes a Door, He Opens a Window.” Ever hear that? It is one of my favorite sayings. What this means to me is that no matter what happens to you, there is always opportunity – a new adventure waiting for you – a new opportunity… if you can grasp it. Many times we realize that the new thing has been with us for some time. We have just been woken up! And now we see more clearly.

Maybe you are in this situation right now. I hear this a lot: “I have been following HVS for years…” “Saw you in Videomaker years ago and this week!”

Something has awakened you...

Should you go for it? Just do it! Like now? Take on a new adventure? If you ask me, the answer is “heck yes.” Of course you should. Life is meant for living. Plus, opportunities have a way of vanishing and being snapped up by others. Remember there are only so many Home Video Studio territories. What’s your market like? Secure it now.

Everyone has a special talent. Some people have more than one. One of my special talents is helping people who are at a crossroads make a change. I am very good at what I do. Very good! I can help you.

Today I have two small pieces of advice that if taken will reap huge rewards for you.

One. If you have been thinking about starting a Home Video Studio call me. Talk to me. I can help you. I’ll take the mystery out of things. Why not find out if you can do it? Find out if you can qualify and of course find out more about what it takes to get started. We want and need great new owners. Plus you’ve love the Home Video Studio Family.

Two. Take action. Don’t be afraid to take action. There is something so American about starting out on a new venture. Think of me as your guide and your mentor. I will help you. I will comfort you and I will guide you into Home Video Studio Ownership and then onto success.

Okay… ball’s in your court. Here’s what we have coming up.

We’ve got Advanced Training starting on Monday, February 29th. We’ll start with an Oscars Party on Sunday evening February 28th.  Advanced Training is our mini-college of HVS. It is a great way to jump-start your new studio. Studio Owner Sharon Galluzzo will be kicking off things on Monday morning. Sharon and her husband Peter did over $300,000.00 last year so she will share a bunch of nuggets with you.  I will be training in the afternoon on what I call the HVS Universe and the DVA Universe. I will be laying out a guide to you so you can get great results in your studio as well. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday has something for everyone. Tuesday is all tech. Core classes for newbies and Advanced classes for veterans including our Pizza and a Movie Nite.  We have a bunch of great classes on Wednesday and Thursday including an animation class and our Celebration Dinner on Thursday evening. Studio Owner Chris Moen will be our keynote speaker that night. Friday – Special Guest Trainer Larry Jordan and Super Star Studio Owner Chad Godfrey will train. We’re bringing Larry in from L.A. Larry does Photoshop and Premiere Pro that day and Chad does $$$$$ (marketing, building the business, making money, etc).  You can fly home Friday night or stick around for Saturday morning wrap-up classes. Attending this training will put you light years ahead!

There is still time… for you to call me, go through our application program and get started with HVS and train as an owner at this event. Over the last fifteen years, I have had quite a few new owners who were kind of tracking HVS in the background and then called, joined and attended this event, Advanced Training (our mini-college of HVS) was their first training. Beautiful.

BASIC TRAINING NOTE: This Year we are doing Double Dates and featuring a BASIC training for new owners who are in Indy for Advanced Training and want to stay the following week and get their BASIC training in. You save on airfare and get a really quick start! CALL ME ASAP IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS OPTION.

Oh… if you would like a copy of our schedule for Advanced Training let me know.

We also have our Show ‘N Tell At Advanced Training coming up on Friday, March 4 and Saturday March 5. This is a great Show ‘N Tell to come to since you will meet so many owners. Also (as mentioned above) Larry Jordan will be training for us on Friday, March 4 and SNT Attendees are welcome to audit this training. You’ll be hanging out with studio owners from all over the United States and learning from Larry Jordan.  Note: We have one more spot open for the March 5th date!

Here’s what we cover at Show ‘N Tell Saturday.
